Evans Funeral Home announces the death of Mr. P. Mike Tate, age 72 of Jefferson, Georgia who entered into rest Thursday, August 6, 2020.  Mr. Tate was born in Athens, Georgia the son of the late Paul Maynard Tate and the late Elleen Adams Tate, was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, a graduate of Jefferson High School, was a member of the first graduating class at Athens Technical School and was a member of Refuge Church of Jackson County. Mr. Tate retired as a Pre Construction and Design Engineer with the Georgia Department of Transportation after thirty-four years of service.  Mr. Tate was a member of Unity Lodge #36 F & AM, was Past Master, a member of York Rite of Georgia, Valley of Atlanta Scottish Rite, Various Invitational and Honorary Orders and served the Masonic Fraternity for forty seven years.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Tate is preceded by a great grandson, William.  Survivors include his wife of fifty-three years, Dell Kieke Tate of Jefferson, two sons, Michael Tate and his wife Leslie of Jefferson, Storey Tate and his wife Laura of Jefferson.  Grandchildren: Paul Michael Tate III, James Austin Tate, Anthony Tate, John Randall Carter, Lacey Duck and Joe Duck.  Great grandchildren: Grayson and Emma Tate, Titus Tate, John, Walter and Cohen.  Funeral services will be held 4:00 P.M. Sunday, August 9, 2020 from the Chapel of Evans Funeral Home with Reverend Storey A. Tate and Reverend Rod Zwemke officiating with burial to follow in Woodbine Cemetery.  Gentlemen serving as pallbearers are Mark Bradley, Michael George, Tom Hayes, Matt Perry, Dewayne Potts and Steven Cash.  Honorary pallbearers are Curtis Anderson, Ernie Ray Stovall and Doyle Strickland.  The family will receive friends 2:00 - 4:00 P.M. SAYRE

Evans Funeral Home announces the death of Mrs. Linda Carol Sayre, age 77, of Pendergrass, Georgia, who went to be with the Lord on August 3, 2020. She knew, with all her heart, that if you are a believer, “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord”, 2 Corinthians 5:8. She will be missed by her husband, Richard whom she was married to for thirty-five years. She lived in Ohio for twenty-seven years before she and her husband moved to Georgia in 2012 to be close to her daughter. After graduating from high school, she worked as a hair stylist until she retired in 2012. She enjoyed gardening and decorating. God gave her a special talent for making things beautiful. She also had a love for animals and had rescued many. She is preceded in death by her mother, Iva, father, William, brother, Billy and son David. She leaves behind her sister, Ruth (Paul) McCaudy, daughter, Michele (John) Groffices, granddaughter, Jennifer Willard, grandson, Tony Groffices and great grandson, Jacob Willard all of the nearby area.  Linda felt so blessed that God led her to the Hebron Church where she had so many fellow believing friends. She was respected by many people and will be missed by all.  A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at 10:00 AM in the Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery, in Dacula, Georgia.

Evans Funeral Home announces the death of Mrs. Betty Lou Miller, age 92, of Braselton, Georgia, who passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2020. Mrs. Miller was born in Parkersburg, West Virginia, a daughter to the late Charles and Alice Keefover Jenkins. Mrs. Miller was a homemaker, was a member of Zion Baptist Church and worked as a volunteer at Northeast Georgia Medical Center. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by her husband Ralph Charles Miller, sister, Marguerite Huntsberry, brothers, Walter Jenkins and Ed Jenkins.  Survivors include her children, Ben Miller and his wife Kathy of Braselton, Barry L. Evans Funeral Home announces the death of Mrs. Dorothy Wilbanks Weldon, age 90 of Jefferson, Georgia who entered into rest Sunday, July 26, 2020.  Mrs. Weldon was born in Nicholson, Georgia a daughter of the late Gordon Earnest Wilbanks and the late Minnie Mae Barnett Wilbanks.  Mrs. Weldon was retired from the University of Georgia, was a homemaker and a member of the Bethany United Methodist Church.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Weldon is preceded by her husband, Herman Weldon, sister, Sara Nell Poe, two brothers; Howard Wilbanks and William Walter Wilbanks, and a daughter in law, Wanda Weldon.
 
Survivors include three sons: Larry Weldon of Nicholson, Stanley Weldon and his wife Phyllis of Cleveland, and Ronnie Weldon and his wife Ginger of Jefferson.  Daughter, Margaret Holloway and her husband Lloyd of Jefferson.  Sister; Lois Mae Poe of Nicholson, two brothers; David Gordon Wilbanks of Nicholson and James Alvin Wilbanks of Buford.  Twelve grandchildren; Laurel Arnold, Preston Weldon, Priscilla Norris, Lane Weldon, Eric Weldon, Khela Dean, Jordan Weldon, Kyndal Quiggle, Michelle Paul, April Beem, Amanda Wilbanks and Misty Bryant.  Twenty great grandchildren; Lauren, Jake, Courtney, Layken, Zoe, Eleni, Emersyn, Caz, Jax, Eisley, Kynleigh, Alexandria, Hudson, Jae, Garrett, Gracie, Lincoln, Madeline, Ella and Harper.

BROWN

Mrs. Angela Couch Brown, age 72, “Ange” to most who knew and loved her, entered into the loving arms of Jesus on July 23, 2020.  She was born in Athens, Georgia, a daughter to the late J.P. and Rella Couch of Jefferson, Georgia where she grew up with her surviving siblings Josephine Allen, Diane Chapman, Joe Couch and their respective spouses.  Angela is also survived by her husband Paul Brown, her two boys Noel Howard and wife Sonja, Ethan Howard, two stepsons David and Stephen Brown, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her sister, Patricia Ann Couch and stepdaughter, Brandy Foust.  Angela spent many years in the insurance industry where she won Insurance Woman of the Year in 1991 and again in 1997.  She also served as Director of the International Association of Insurance Professionals.  Angela was a longtime member of Shiloh Baptist Lamar Church in Barnesville, Georgia where she served as Choir Director.  Because of her and Paul’s talent and love of music, they were blessed to enjoy singing and performing for many years together.  She was also respected by many for her unyielding volunteer work.  The Funeral Service will be held Friday July 31, 2020 at 11:00am in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson, Georgia.  The family will be receiving visitors Thursday July 30, 2020 from 11-1pm and again from 5-8pm.  We welcome flowers, however, anyone wishing to make a monetary donation in Angela’s memory, please send to Shiloh Baptist Lamar Church “Pavilion Building Fund” 1530 Highway 41-S Barnesville, Georgia 30204.  Online condolences at www.evansfuneralhomeinc.com

KEEN

Mr. Jack Nolan Keen, 85, of Jefferson, "Coach Keen" to all who knew him, passed away Friday, July 24, 2020.  He had resided in Jefferson for 56 years prior to becoming a resident of Bountiful Hills Senior Living Community in Commerce 3 years ago. He was born April 20, 1935 in Atlanta to the late Edward T. Keen and Jacquelyn Turner Nolan Keen. Coach Keen grew up in the Buckhead community of Atlanta after the family spent a brief period in Eatonton, Georgia. Upon graduating from North Fulton High School in 1953, he attended Georgia Institute of Technology, earning degrees in industrial management and geology. He married Beverly Ann Hampson in 1959. He began teaching at North Fulton High School in Atlanta, launching a career in education that would span 50 years. After he received a masters degree in mathematics from Arizona State University, the family relocated to Jefferson in 1966, where Coach Keen became a fixture of Jefferson City Schools and spent the next 42 years as an advanced mathematics teacher and track, cross country, and wrestling coach at Jefferson High School. Coach Keen was a dedicated and respected teacher, mentor, counselor, and friend to thousands of students and athletes and their families during his teaching/coaching career at Jefferson High School.  He was elected Star Teacher 27 times, was inducted into the state and national coaches hall of fame, and coached hundreds of state championship athletes. In addition to teaching, Coach Keen's passion was traveling throughout the western United States with his family. An avid outdoorsman, he built many precious memories with the family during the summers while touring national parks and historic sites, hiking, and camping. He built a family vacation home in the small town of Westcliffe, Colorado, which soon became the family's part time "adopted" home town. Coach Keen was preceded in death by a son, Doug.  He is survived by his devoted wife of 60  years, Beverly, brother, Ted Keen of North Carolina, son Jeff (Bill) of Hoschton, son Chris (Rikki) of Chugiak, Alaska, and grandchildren Cody and McKenna Keen, daughter Karen Porter (Gary) of Jefferson, granddaughter Savannah Royal and great grandson Porter, grandson Chaz (Kayla) and great granddaughters Lily and Abby, grandson Tyler, daughter Katherine Cheatham (Chad) of Blue Ridge, and grandchildren Braxton and Annaleigh. Due to the Covid-19 crisis, there will be a small private family gathering. A visitation and celebration of life will be planned at a later date. Evans Funeral Home announces the death of Mr. Hansel Harvey Williams, age 84, of Talmo, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2020. Mr. Williams was born in Jackson County, Georgia, a son to the late Grover and Verbie Grace Millwood Williams. Mr. Williams was a heavy equipment operator and a member of Mountain Creek Baptist Church in Pendergrass, where he served as a Deacon. In addition to his parents, Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his sisters, Hazel Patterson, Peggy Shope, Blanche Stephens and his brother, Henry Williams.  Survivors include his wife, Mary Alice Williams of Talmo; daughters, Melanie Satterfield and her husband Ronnie of Clermont, Angela Hulsey and her husband Steve of Pendergrass; grandchildren, Captain Matt Satterfield and his wife Nicole, of Philadelphia, NY and Whitney Hulsey of Pendergrass.

Evans Funeral Home announces the death of Mr. John Walter VanMeter, age 55, of Jefferson, who passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2020. Mr. VanMeter was born in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina. Mr. VanMeter was an OEM Paving Support Manager with Leica Geosystems, specializing in concrete and asphalt paving. Mr. Strickland was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War, a member of the First Baptist Church of Jefferson, and was a retired Architectural Blacksmith having been the owner along with his wife of Strickland Forge.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Strickland is preceded by three daughters: Kristal Strickland Doss, Stacey Strickland Kapps and Sue-Anne Strickland.  Survivors include his wife Bobisue Sims Strickland of Jefferson, grandson, Terry Dean (Buddy) Strickland of Jefferson.  Daughter: Cindy Strickland Ruggerio of Carmel, California, and sister; Lou Ann Coleman of Eastman.  Two brothers: Jim Strickland (Jeri) of Gainesville, and Wade Strickland (Sandy) of Kennesaw.  Numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren also survive.  Memorial services will be held at a later date.  Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Jefferson, P.O.
